The Right Stuff?
So I was thinking about something today. We have bought a house and they just started digging today. I went by and took a look at what they had done so far. There is a huge hole and pretty soon that hole will have concrete in it to support the house that will sit on top of it. That concrete is so important because if it is not there, our house will begin to sink. I want to see the finished product and be able to get into it....but there is a process and I got to wait till it is ready.
How many times do we get so excited to build something and forget to pour the concrete and let it set. Then when we build what we want, it falls through. I remember Jesus saying something about that concept. It went something like this..."The one who hears my words and does what I say is like the man who build his house on the rock (or the concrete), but the one who hears my words and does not do what I say is like the man who built his house on the sand...the rains came, the floods rose, and great was the fall of that house because it had no foundation. "
It is so important to start right and to let Christ be the only foundation for our life. If it is anything else, it is a false one because Paul says, 'there is no other foundation than what has been laid by Jesus Christ'. If you or I try to pour something into our lives that is not of God, it is shifting sand and all our efforts fail. If we allow God to guide us and direct us, we will have a firm foundation on which to build our lives and no matter what storms come (because they will come) and no matter how high the floods get, our house will stand because it is founded upon the Rock!
Lord, help me to build my life on the foundation of your principles and not on the limited wisdom I have (Prov. 3:5-6)
